The new software supports the sync and playback of .avi-files. When you sync avi-files to your Zune they’re currently converted, but from the Spring update your Zune HD will support native avi playback.

  • Facebook app early this year UPDATE: The Facebook app should be released in January

    • It wasn’t mentioned in Steve Ballmer’s keynote on CES, but apparently Microsoft had something(s) left up its sleeve for the Zune users.

    Firmware update this spring
    This spring a firmware update will provide all Zune HDs playback of MPEG-4 part 2 Advanced Simple Profile videos. This means your Zune HD will support playback of video files in popular formats like Xvid. Due to the restrictions of being proprietary software the other popular format, DivX, is unlikely to find its way to the Zune HD.

    Another major improvement that would be given by the firmware update is the ability to create Smart DJ playlists on the go. For the time being that’s only possible with intervention of the Zune Software.

    Last Friday the Zune HD was given a firmware update that added a few improvements:

    Zune HD firmware update: Today we released the v4.3 firmware update for Zune HD players; this update adds support for upcoming 3d games and applications, as well as an auto-suggest feature for better text input, and other minor improvements. Enjoy!

    Like you see, support for ‘upcoming‘ 3D games and apps was added, well it looks like those upcoming games are arrived at the ‘Marketplace.
    The new games are:

    • PGR: ferrari edition, a 3d racegame
    • Lucky lane bowling, a 3d bowling game
    • Vans Sk8: Pool service, a 3d Skate game
    • Piano, a simple piano where you can play your own tunes on
    • Audio Surf: Tilt, ride your music – you choose a song that the game will turn into a roller coaster track for you to ride
    • Checkers, I don’t think you’ll need a description for this one

    All these games are free, so don’t hesitate and download yours…
