Zune HD won two design awards

The jury of the FastCompany IDEA 2010 design awards gave the Zune HD a bronze and gold medal in the categories Entertainment and Interactive Product Experiences.

“In a category dominated by one major brand, the Zune HD is a real game-changer! It’s a remarkable product that redefines interaction models and creates a new standard for ‘great user experience.’ Everything about this product has been well considered and well designed from the packaging to the form factor to the Zune software to the product interface. It’s elegant and beautiful. The first time I picked up the Zune HD, I spent a couple of hours playing with it. The whole experience was one of surprise and delight. I couldn’t believe how good it was.”

Zune HD gets compliments on good looks by MSI

Someone had to be the first and in this case that honour goes to MSI. The company might be known to you as a PC manufacturer, but apparently it has also some skills in copying someone else’s design. It’s pretty obvious that the designers of this MT-V660 were inspired by the good looks of the Zune HD.
But hey, Microsoft, take it as a compliment…

Microsoft imposes censorship to all Zune HD twitter app users, or does it?

Where most of us probably all have heard that Microsoft has launched its twitter app for the Zune HD. Not merely that many people however are aware that the app automatically censored all incoming and out going messages. This obviously caused a real storm through the land of Zune-news, and many bloggers and commenters were furious. Luckily this did not remained ignored by the Zune-team, as a Microsoft spokesperson told Gizmodo this:

“The recently released Twitter for Zune HD application has been abbreviating some explicit words in tweets when viewed on the device; however these explicit words do appear in their full text on the Twitter site or on any other Twitter client. We have identified the issue and are taking steps to update the application as soon as possible to ensure Twitter for Zune HD users are able to view tweets in their original state.”

As it turns out, “as soon as possible”, is now. So if you’ve installed the twitter app on your Zune HD, it is highly recommended to update it (if you care about this issue).

Two new colours for Zune HD from december 1

Some time ago – before this site existed – there were some hidden pictures found in the Zune Software source code. Nobody knew who they were or what they were up to.

One of those pictured Zune HDs (the ‘atomic’ Zune) show up a bit later on eBay - being sold for more than 5,100 USD. But still no clue of the three others…

Today two other babies from that family picture are announced to make their début on December 1. From that date onwards you’ll be able to buy a Purple or Magenta Zune HD. Leaving us only one player left to track down…

ABi Zune HD glass screen stress test

Over at anythingbutipod.com Grahm Skee did a stress test on the Zune HD’s glass screen. It turns out that the glass screen performed as good as the 120′s did.

Maandelijks wordt door CNet een top 5 opgesteld van de meest bezochte gadgets op zijn website. Bij de editie van deze maand, oktober 2009, bleek dat pagina’s over de Zune HD het meest bekeken werden. Daarmee haalde de ZHD de eerste plaats binnen, voor de iPhone 3GS – die op de vijfde plaats strandde.

Dat Zune HD een groeiend succes kent valt niet te ontkennen en kan misschien wel het best bewezen worden met de volgende eigenaardigheid, er loopt namelijk een veiling op eBay rond een unieke Zune HD. Dit model met 32 gigabyte is uniek omdat het een rood-oranje kleur en een speciaal design heeft dat zich zowel op de voor als achterzijde bevind. Een rood-oranje met dit uniek design Zune HD wordt namelijk nog niet ontwikkeld, noch bevestigd door Microsoft. Dit maakt deze excusieve Zune HD een unieke speler. De veiling van deze Zune loopt dinsdag 29 september om 16u27 ten einde en het huidige hoogste bod bedraagt op dit moment (22u50) maarliefst 10.000 $ en stijgt met de minuut. Dat er mensen zijn die in deze tijden van crisis de prijs van een kleine auto willen geven aan een ietwat unieke Zune getuigd er dus van dat de Zune ’s populariteit enorm in de lift zit.
